The Ministry of Health (MOH} of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Worl.d Health Organization (WHO) wish to inform the public that currently, there is no case related to the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Corona virus (MERS-CoV) infections and the Ebola Virus Disease have been detected in Cambodia, so far.
1. MERS-CoV is a novel coronavirus that causes acute respiratory illness in infected patients. The virus was first reported by the WHO in 2012, and thus far all cases worldwide remained associated with the Arabian Peninsula. The risk of a MERS-CoV outbreak in Cambodia remains low as sustained human-to-human transmission of the virus has not been reported.
The MOH's Department of Communicable Disease Control has, since 2013, been conducting MERS-CoV dissemination workshops in close collaboration with religious leaders, for communities at risk, that cover actions that should be undertaken by pilgrims betore, during and after their Hajj and Umrah pilgrhnages to the Middle East. There is currently no advisory against travel to countries of the Arabian Peninsula, or to countries reporting imported cases of MERS-CoV.
"To reduce the risk of exposure to MERS-CoV, pilgrims should observe good personal hygiene at all times; practice frequent hand washing (e.g. before handling food or eating; after going to toilet, or when hands are soiled); avoid close contact with persons suffering from acute respiratory infections (e.g. someone who is coughing); avoid contact with
camels and other live farm or wild animals, including not visiting camel farms; adopt good food safety and hygiene practices and avoid consuming unpasteurized milk; undercooked meats, rawfruits and vegetables (unless they have been peeled), or unsafe water; Returning travellers from affected areas or travellers who suspect that they have been exsposed to MERS-CoV virus should seek immediate medical attention and mention their recent travel to Middle East Countries" said
